One of the most beautiful and iconic films about basketball.
"He got game" has no literal translation. It can't have one. It's an investiture, an American slang phrase used to define someone who has a special talent: "He's got the game."
Jesus Shuttlesworth (Ray Allen) had it all.
Basketball is the litmus test of the entire film. The rottenness of American youth/professional sports, family problems, a father in prison (superb Denzel) who tries to mend his relationship with his son by finding only one way to do it: on a basketball court. Only there, in fact, where words are useless and men truly bring out themselves.
Our homage is twofold. To the magnificent #34 by Jesus Shuttlesworth of Lincoln High School, and to a wonderful dialogue on the concrete of the New York playgrounds between Denzel and Ray.
